Company Overview
Veren Inc. was a Canadian oil and gas company that traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. It was previously named Crescent Point Energy Corp. and traded under the ticker symbol CPG on both exchanges. On May 10, 2024, at its Annual and Special Meeting of Shareholders, Crescent Point's shareholders approved changing the company's name to Veren Inc.; per the company's own filed announcement, Veren's shares began trading under the new symbol 'VRN' on both the TSX and NYSE around May 15, 2024 — meaning it was VRN, not CPG, that was Veren's ticker for the remainder of its life as an independent issuer. On May 12, 2025, Whitecap Resources Inc. announced the successful closing of its previously announced combination with Veren Inc. Veren ceased to exist as an independent, separately traded public issuer as of that date; its assets and shareholders became part of Whitecap Resources Inc. (TSX: WCP).
Business Segments
At the time of the March 2025 transaction announcement, Whitecap and Veren jointly described Veren's asset base as concentrated in the Alberta Montney and Kaybob Duvernay unconventional formations, together with conventional light oil assets in Saskatchewan. The combination was structured as an all-share transaction in which Veren shareholders received 1.05 Whitecap common shares for each Veren share held, valued at approximately $15 billion including net debt; Whitecap shareholders held approximately 48% and former Veren shareholders approximately 52% of the combined company's outstanding shares immediately after closing.
Geographic Exposure
Veren's oil and gas operations, both as Crescent Point Energy Corp. and later as Veren Inc., were concentrated in Alberta and Saskatchewan within the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. No SEC-confirmed material operations outside Canada were found in the sources reviewed. Following the May 12, 2025 combination, these assets are now held and operated by Whitecap Resources Inc., which continues to report on them as part of its own combined asset base; this historical profile does not track Whitecap's current operations or results.
Principal Risks
Veren Inc. (and its former CPG ticker) is no longer an independent, currently-traded public issuer, and this page describes historical fact only. Readers should not confuse this historical profile with Whitecap Resources Inc. (TSX: WCP), the entity that now holds the combined asset base, nor assume CPG was the ticker in use at the time of the Whitecap combination — the operative ticker at that time was VRN. This site does not redirect CPG.TO to WCP.TO; the two are tracked as separate, distinct research profiles.
