VIU is an international developed-markets equity index fund managed by Vanguard Investments Canada, giving Canadian investors exposure to companies outside North America without exposure to emerging markets.
Index Strategy
VIU tracks the FTSE Developed All Cap ex North America Index, a broad, market-capitalization-weighted index spanning developed markets outside the United States and Canada across large-, mid-, and small-capitalization companies. Index membership and weights are set by FTSE Russell, an independent third-party index provider. The fund's currency exposure to non-Canadian currencies is not hedged.
Geographic Exposure
Holdings are spread across developed-market countries outside the United States and Canada; the fund's exposure is unhedged to those countries' local currencies.
Principal Risks
As a fund holding equities across multiple developed international markets, VIU.TO carries general equity-market risk, multi-country and multi-currency risk (returns are affected by exchange-rate movements between the Canadian dollar and each local currency), and geographic-concentration risk to the specific mix of countries and sectors that make up its target index at any given time.
